A Primer on Data Visualization Using Tableau Desktop (Part 3) In-Person
This workshop is designed to teach users new to Tableau how to navigate the Tableau Desktop interface, create basic visualizations (i.e. bar chart, heat map, etc.), and combine visualizations into a dashboard. Participants will gain firsthand experience navigating the Tableau Desktop workspace. Using a publicly available secondary data set, participants will work in small groups to generate and format data-appropriate charts, create and format a dashboard, and share their end results with the full group.

Describe how to connect to an Excel file and preview data in Tableau Desktop

Use the Tableau Desktop workspace to build views and select chart types

Combine visualizations into a dashboard

Export and share visualizations using Tableau Reader and other common software applications, including Microsoft PowerPoint
